Biking time about 2 to 4 hours, better to follow this route as easy to get lost up here in the endless forest..

This ride is all about green adventure and enjoying the massive forests around here, with so many unscheduled little places to stop and enjoy views you just could not find on your own..

Suited to a half day cycle, that you do, enjoy and then have a nice cup of tea back at the Lodge!

it is NOT all forest, plenty of viewpoints up the mountain, this one back to the start of the Dinaric Alps, Nanos..

DESCRIPTION..

This E Bike ride is all about getting under the skin of Slovenia and feeling what it is like to do a really local Forest ride..

The climbs are made easy with an E Bike so you can have a smile on your face as you discover bits of forest that most locals do not see on a magnificant loop that takes you up one of the most prominent peaks at the start of the Dinaric Alps.

You will be so surrounded and cushioned by the forest, so you will feel part of it, leaning into corners and peeking around to see what is behind the next bend..

We head out from the Lodge towards Predjama castle, but keep going up into the green hills, towards the peak of St Lawrence, not so high at 1,019m, but dominant and a real marker on this Dinaric Alps skyline..

Leaving the village of Gorenje, past the pretty church the local road turns into a perfect gravel forest track as you really start the ascent towards the mountain.

There are some steep corners made easy with the E Bike as the forest becomes thicker with little clearings of pasture and more & more big white rocks between the trees.

Only the road is even, the forest is never flat, with rocks and Karst sinkholes of every size and shape creating a topsy turvey forest vista.

Follow the route carefully into the forest to reach a final small hill, where better to leave the bikes at the bottom and trek the 100m or so to the top, as the path is really quite tricky here for a bike, but pops out to a mountain clearing where the St Lawrence church sits with stunning views down into the green valley.

Jump back on the bikes to ride through more forest direction Predjama Castle, with a wonderful downhill.

Maybe visit the castle or stop for a coffee and views or continue back to the Lodge.

THINK ABOUT..

There are 3 ways back from the top of St Lawrence.. Our main route will take you towards Predjama castle..

OR you could bike back the same way you came up here for an epic downhill back to the Lodge!

If you are a more experienced cyclist, you might want to do the slightly scrappy downhill track from the church that takes you down the other side of the mountain and from here you can do a loop back to the Lodge from the village of Studeno, following a part of the St James Pilgrim route!

If you go DOWN St Lawrence you get to come back to the Lodge part of the way on this ancient secret track!
If you go DOWN St Lawrence you get to come back to the Lodge part of the way on this ancient secret track!

If you do choose the slightly harder way down, there are bits where you have to dismount and push the bike.. maybe for 10 mins, but this is the only way down by here, so necessary for a really great ride back to the Lodge.

But if this is your one day to see Predjama castle and do a bike ride, then it is perfectly possible to add Predjama into this route.. just decide if you want to see the castle first or more towards the end of your ride and we can adjust the route for you to follow!

There are no restaurants in the forest, so you might want to bring a snack and eat it at the church or in the forest sitting on top of a rock!

this is part of the route to follow if you go down St Lawrence towards the village of Studeno..

PLEASE NOTE: EVERYONE is different, so EVERY Lodge E Bike route can be as long or as short as you like.. we can help you choose the best route for your time available, interests and group dynamics.

Maybe you have just half a day, maybe you want to eat along the way, maybe you have never heard of a Disappearing lake.. it doesn't matter.. ALL you need to know to start with is you can have a REALLY fantastic experience on an E Bike along any one of our Lodge routes and this is exactly why we got the E Bikes in the first place!
