DURATION..

this is a DROP OFF route.. where we drop you & the bikes off at Cerknica lake and you E Bike all the way back to the Lodge.. wow, what an adventure!

Biking time about 5 - 6 hours, including seeing some of the best Karst rock scenery in Europe..

This is a long ride, made possible with the E Bike, so make a morning start and this day trip will be one of the unexpected highlights of your Green Slovenian adventures..

DESCRIPTION..

We will drop you off in the main car park at the start of the lake.. the biggest Disappearing Lake in Europe is 25 mins from the Lodge..

The lake's 40km sq area is so huge it is only possible to do a small corner today, but the stone tracks are fantastic, well marked and by skirting this corner you will be able to find some of the magical sinkholes and caves that help create this lake..

There are info boards to tell you about the special wildlife and flora & fauna here, viewing towers and we can also brief you where to stop to see the best bits!

Cernica lake has been beatifully furnished with towers, benches and signs to help you understand how special it is and explore..

As you go round it is clear to see where the shorelines of the lake reach and lots of evidence for how it fills so quickly..

Incredibly, it is possible to E Bike from the far end of the lake to yet another world class Karst rock feature as you head direction Lodge!

Follow a quiet forest stone track to the wonder of the world that is Rakov Skocjan, with 2 huge stone bridges to find at each end of this 3km long secret rock valley..

Another set of forest tracks will take you deep into the forest to find the huge Unec crater, a Karst collapsed cave, maybe 50m deep with secret Italian pre WW2 bunkers..

maybe a river will flow under the Big Bridge when you roll up here..

Then you roll down to the Haasberg Baroque ruined castle, Skratovka Springs AND the Unec river to maybe swim or have a paddle..

Bike into Planina village along a road that disappears too when the Planina Disappearing lake (6km long, 2km wide) forms.

The village lines up along the shore of another of Slovenia's biggest lakes and there is a much needed supermarket here for ice cold refreshments as you will have surely used up your two water bottles by now!

Then take a secret riverside track that used to mark the border between Italy and the Kingdom of Yugoslavia to bike straight up to amazing Rapunzel Tower .. a tower so like the fairy tale you will be entranced!

maybe have a dip in the River of 7 Names.. aka Unica River..

Park up and go to have a peak inside the massive Planina Cave mouth, which is where the Unica river pours out from..

You will need the last burst of Slovenian sunshine in your E Bike to climb the old Roman road back towards the Lodge from Planina, with a last forest detour along the world renown St James Pilgrim path!

There is actually too much to think about in this day.. We have found a way for guests to find your own way around half a dozen of the secret Green places that most visitors to Slovenia have not even heard about.. let alone visited!!

And all of this on a Bike!

It sounds like a lot and it is.. But by E Biking you get to go at your own pace and stop for longer or shorter at your particular favourites.

This is an epic route and perfectly possible in one day.. best to follow our Komoot plan with a huge smile on your face!

you absolutely must have a little wander up the river to see the beautiful mouth of Planina cave..
